Summary
This worm is able of spreading through email sending messages with different content. It has, as well, capability to spread through Kazaa's P2P network.
Removal
Based on the settings of your F-Secure security product, it will either move the file to the quarantine where it cannot spread or cause harm, or remove it.
A False Positive is when a file is incorrectly detected as harmful, usually because its code or behavior resembles known harmful programs. A False Positive will usually be fixed in a subsequent database update without any action needed on your part. If you wish, you may also:
Check for the latest database updates
First, check if your F-Secure security program is using the latest updates, then try scanning the file again.
Submit a sample
After checking, if you still believe the file is incorrectly detected, you can submit a sample of it for re-analysis.
Note: If the file was moved to quarantine, you need to collect the file from quarantine before you can submit it.
Exclude a file from further scanning
If you are certain that the file is safe and want to continue using it, you can exclude it from further scanning by the F-Secure security product.
Note: You need administrative rights to change the settings.
Technical Details
The worm has three components, it was written in Visual Basic and packed with UPX. The first component if the one responsible for the installation into the system, it's an UPX file of length 9266 (24626 unpacked). The second component contains the main set of functionalities of the worm, the email sending code. The third component is an UPX packed copy of the SMTP Control for Visual Basic. Which the worm will use to send the email.
Installation to system
It will drop its components into the default temporary folder as:
explore.exe (main component) a.exe (installation component) smtp.ocx (SMTP Control for Visual Basic)
All of the components will also be copied to the System32 windows folder. And will copy the installation component with the additional names:
a.bat a.com a.pif a.scr
P2P spreading
This worm will also read from the Windows registry the location of the Kazaa downloads folder and copy itself to that location.
Mass mailing
It will extract email addresses from files in the users' computer which have one of the following extensions:
.htm .html .eml .txt
