Summary
VBS/Chick.A is a worm that is not considered to be a threat as the worm sends itself only once per infected system and only to a single recipient.
Removal
Based on the settings of your F-Secure security product, it will either move the file to the quarantine where it cannot spread or cause harm, or remove it.
A False Positive is when a file is incorrectly detected as harmful, usually because its code or behavior resembles known harmful programs. A False Positive will usually be fixed in a subsequent database update without any action needed on your part. If you wish, you may also:
Check for the latest database updates
First, check if your F-Secure security program is using the latest updates, then try scanning the file again.
Submit a sample
After checking, if you still believe the file is incorrectly detected, you can submit a sample of it for re-analysis.
Note: If the file was moved to quarantine, you need to collect the file from quarantine before you can submit it.
Exclude a file from further scanning
If you are certain that the file is safe and want to continue using it, you can exclude it from further scanning by the F-Secure security product.
Note: You need administrative rights to change the settings.
Technical Details
The worm spreads in a email with the following characteristics:
Subject: RE: Britney Pics Body: Take a look at these pics ... Regards, (the name of the infected user) Attachment: BRITNEY.CHM
The attachment name is variable and can be something else than "Britney.chm" as well.
If the user executes the attached file, the following screen is displayed:
However, in a default installation of Windows, the following warning dialog is also displayed:
After this the actual script in the compiled HTML help file will be executed if the user selects "Yes" the dialog.
At this point, the worm will go through C:, D: and E: drives in the system and replace the "script.ini" file from mIRC installation directory if such is found. After that worm is sent thru mIRC with a filename "Britney.chm" previosly saved into Windows installation directory.
The worm sets a registry key that is used as an infection marker, so the worm will not spread more than once from an infected system.
The registry key is:
HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\chm
Finally the worm sends an infected message only to the first recipient in the first address book. All this means that the worm is sent only once from an infected system.
Variant:Chick.F (I-Worm.Brit.g, Brit.G, VBS/Chick.F@m)
Chick.F also known as Brit.G is variant of Chick worm which disguises itself as World Cup 2002 results.
F-Secure Anti Virus detects this worm with the updates published on June 7th, 2002.
