Overpayment Scheme

Overview

In an Overpayment Scheme, victims are told they have been given a large amount of money, either accidentally or as part of the scam/deception, and are directed to refund a smaller amount back to the scammer. The initial "large amount" actually does not exist, or is in the form of a counterfeit or fraudulent instrument, such as a bad check.
