Overview
The scammer impersonates an employer or colleague of the victim. When impersonating a boss, the scammer hopes to leverage Authority. When impersonating a colleague, the scammer hopes to bypass the victim's normal (elevated) level of suspicion about a request coming from a stranger.
Typically the information needed to conduct a scam using a workplace impersonator is gleaned from online sources such as LinkedIn, Zoominfo, or other work-affiliated websites or databases.
