Extortion Scheme

Overview

Extortion refers to any scheme in which the scammer threatens additional damage, in order to extract payment from the victim. Blackmail is a specific type of extortion where the threat to the victim focuses on releasing shameful or embarrassing information. Sextortion is a term for when the perpetrator threatens to release sexually explicit images or content unless the victim pays money.
