How to create a strong password?
Strong passwords are long, random and unique. The harder it is for a hacker or computer to guess through trying every combination, the safer you are. Key principles for creating strong passwords are:
Length: Aim for 16–32-character passwords. Each extra character increases security exponentially, making it much harder for computers to brute-force.
Mix character types: A strong password should be a mix of uppercase letters (A–Z), lowercase letters (a–z), numbers (0–9), and special symbols (!, @, #, $, %)
No personal information: Avoid names, birthdays, or hobbies as hackers use social engineering to guess passwords based on your public info.
Don’t reuse: Use a unique password for every account. If you need a strong password for a different site, click

Because strong, random passwords are impossible to memorize, F‑Secure recommends using a password manager to store them in a digital vault so you don’t have to remember them.
According to America’s Cybersecurity & Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA), the best way to protect against account takeover is to store strong passwords in a password manager.

Frequently asked questions about the password generator
A strong password is unique, at least 16 characters long and includes uppercase and lowercase letters, numbers and symbols. Hackers crack passwords with programs that test millions of alternatives in a second. That’s why the password should be random, difficult to guess and uncommon.
Yes. Password managers are safer than creating simple, easy-to-remember passwords and reusing them. Because of strong encryption, it’s practically impossible to break into a password vault without the right password or fingerprint. Also, an attacker would first have to get to your device.
Strong passwords are your best defense against identity theft. If you reuse the same password, a single leak gives hackers total access to your digital life. Accounts often store sensitive data like your address, birth date, and credit card info. Using a unique password for every site ensures that one stolen credential doesn’t compromise everything else.
Because strong, random passwords are nearly impossible to memorize, it is best to use a password manager to store them in a secure digital vault. This allows you to use complex logins without needing to remember each one.
A password’s security is determined by its entropy, or mathematical randomness, which measures how difficult it is for software to guess. The more random a password is, the longer it takes for hacking methods like brute-force to crack it.
To choose a strong password, ensure it is long (16–32 characters), complex (mixing letters, numbers, and symbols), and unique to a single account. You should also avoid using any personal information, as this makes it easier for hackers to guess your credentials.
F‑Secure Password Generator is a free and easy-to-use tool for creating secure passwords that are difficult to crack. It allows you to customize character types and length to instantly generate a strong, random password.
The tool uses password entropy to measure how difficult a password is to crack. Entropy represents the mathematical randomness of your password; the higher the entropy, the more combinations a hacker’s software must guess. By testing against common hacking methods like brute-force and dictionary attacks, the tool categorizes your password as weak, medium, strong, or super strong.
F‑Secure’s free Password Generator tool generates examples of strong passwords with a single click. While you can generate passwords as short as four characters, remember that longer and more complex passwords offer the best protection. Simply choose your desired length and symbols, then copy the random password directly to your clipboard.
