Summary

VBS/Draft is a mass mailing email worm written in VBScript.

Removal

Based on the settings of your F-Secure security program, it will either automatically delete, quarantine or rename the detected program or file, or ask you for a desired action.

A False Positive is when a file is incorrectly detected as harmful, usually because its code or behavior resembles known harmful programs. A False Positive will usually be fixed in a subsequent database update without any action needed on your part. If you wish, you may also:

  • Check for the latest database updates

First check if your F-Secure security program is using the latest updates, then try scanning the file again.

  • Submit a sample

After checking, if you still believe the file is incorrectly detected, you can submit a sample of it for re-analysis.

Note: If the file was moved to quarantine, you need to collect the file from quarantine before you can submit it.

  • Exclude a file from further scanning

If you are certain that the file is safe and want to continue using it, you can exclude it from further scanning by the F-Secure security product.

Note: You need administrative rights to change the settings.

Technical Details

Variant:Draft.A@mm (Forwarder, I-Worm.Draft)

VBS/Draft.A@mm is a worm that replicates by forwarding the infected message.

The original message that was found had the following content:

Subject: Thanks for that...
Body: Thanks for your email - VERY interesting. I'm not sure about the last bit
though - could be considered a little "risky". I've highlighted the part I
      would change in blue.
Have a look at the doument and let me know.
    Thanks.
    Attachment: Draft 2.DOC.vbs

The message body and attachment name can be different.

When the attachment is executed, the worm forwards the infected message to all recipients from "All Users" distribution list. If this distribution list does not exist, the worm will not be able to work.

The worm attempts to track down the number of infected users by sending an email message to the virus writer:

  To: SarahMichelle@freewebaccess.co.uk
    Subject: Draft2
    Body: <the infected user's email address>

Next the worm will add a key to the registry, so it will not mass mail again, and finally it shows the following message box:

Unable to process file - Internal error at 0x80F3:429A
