Summary

Adware:W32/Yabelink identifies installer packages that contain an additional but optional installation of a desktop shortcut, 'ebay.lnk', that does not point to the legitimate Ebay online marketplace website.

The default setting for the installer packages is to install the shortcut without explicitly informing the user that this feature is optional; as a result, users may be puzzled by the new shortcut added to the desktop.

Removal

Once detected, the F-Secure security product will block it from running and prompt you for a desired action.

If you are aware of the risks involved in using the file and consent to its use, you may change the settings of your F-Secure security product to allow the file to run. You may also change the settings to exclude it from scanning.

Note: You need administrative rights to change the settings.

A False Positive is when a file is incorrectly detected as harmful, usually because its code or behavior resembles known harmful programs. A False Positive will usually be fixed in a subsequent database update without any action needed on your part. If you wish, you may also:

  • Check for the latest database updates

First check if your F-Secure security program is using the latest updates, then try scanning the file again.

  • Submit a sample

After checking, if you still believe the file is incorrectly detected, you can submit a sample of it for re-analysis.

Note: If the file was moved to quarantine, you need to collect the file from quarantine before you can submit it.

  • Exclude a file from further scanning

If you are certain that the file is safe and want to continue using it, you can exclude it from further scanning by the F-Secure security product.

Note: You need administrative rights to change the settings.

Installation

The working folder for the installation package is usually found in the user's default Application Data location (with the name, 'Desktopicon') and may contain a configuration file, an icon file and an executable file.

The optional shortcut may accompany a useful/ legitimate/ desired application installer, which the user wants to install. To do so, the user is recommended to uncheck the "ebay icon" check box during the installation process, to prevent the shortcut from installing.
