F-Secure Virus Descriptions : RSY

NAME:RSY
ALIAS:Alcon, Kendesm, Ken&Desmond, Ether
TYPE:Resident Boot sectors

This is a simple boot sector virus which spreads on floppies. It infects the DBR of the hard drive instead of MBR.

RSY activates by random and overwrites some data on the hard drive.

Virus contains this text:

        R.SY

F-PROT 2.27 and 2.28 might miss this virus occasionally. If you suspect this, use the DOS version with the /PARANOID switch to double-check.

RSY was reported in the wild in Europe in December 1997.
