Detecting and deterring data exfiltration

3 mins read

The research, supported by CPNI (Centre for the Protection of National Infrastructure), has revealed current and new techniques being used by cyber criminals to steal sensitive information.

Among such techniques, researchers have found that it is possible to exfiltrate large amounts of information through popular websites such as Facebook, Flickr, YouTube and LinkedIn.

By extrapolating business and technology trends as well as the latest attacker techniques, researchers identified new methods that may be used to steal data in the future.

Supported by CPNI,  F-Secure Consulting has published two whitepapers: a briefing paper which provides an overview for senior executives, and a detailed guide for security teams to implement targeted interventions.

The original research was carried out by MWR Infosecurity before being acquired by F-Secure corp in June 2018. This article was published before MWR became part of F-Secure Consulting in September 2019.
