Report ID: SA200900752
Source: Secunia
Date of Discovery: 10.02.2009
Criticality: Urgent
Affects:

Microsoft Exchange Server 2003
Microsoft Exchange Server 2007

Compromise From: From remote
Compromise Type: DoS
System access

Summary

Some vulnerabilities have been reported in Microsoft Exchange Server, which can be exploited by malicious people to cause a DoS (Denial of Service) or potentially compromise a vulnerable system.

Detailed Description

1) An unspecified error exists within the decoding of Transport Neutral Encapsulation Format (TNEF) data. This can be exploited to cause a memory corruption, e.g. when a user opens or previews a specially crafted e-mail message sent in TNEF format or when the Microsoft Exchange Server Information Store processes the specially crafted message.

Successful exploitation may allow execution of arbitrary code.

2) An error exists within the processing of MAPI commands in the EMSMDB2 (Electronic Messaging System Microsoft Data Base, 32 bit build) provider. This can be exploited to cause the application to stop responding by sending a specially crafted MAPI command using the EMSMDB32 provider.

NOTE: This also affects the Microsoft Exchange System Attendant, which uses the EMSMDB32 provider.
