Couldn't find a particular virus ?
If you were unable to find the virus you were looking for from the
index lists, try searching for the virus name with the search engine.
If you still can't find the virus, there are two possibilities:
1.Wrong name
The virus name you're looking for is not an 'official' CARO
name. There are more than 100 different antivirus products
available worldwide, so it is more than likely that different
antiviruses use different names for viruses.
To combat this, CARO (Computer Antivirus Researcher's
Organization) set up a naming committee to try to
standardize virus names. This does not solve the problem
completely, as there still is confusion with the names of
brand new viruses, and several products still use their own
naming systems.
To solve this problem, re-check the virus with a product that
follows the CARO naming standard. F-Secure Anti-Virus is
relatively accurate with virus names.
You might also want to have a look at the Project VGrep
home page on Virus Bulletin web site. This system provides
cross-reference names for viruses.
If you find out about an alias name for a virus, and the alias
is not listed in our description of the virus, please let us
know and we will add it.
If you contact our support services, please be sure to
mention which product (and which version) detected the
virus, and give the exact name that was reported. Our
support address is Anti-Virus-Support@F-Secure.com.
2.Description missing
Obviously there can't be detailed descriptions of all known
viruses: there are just too many of them. For this reason we
concentrate on writing descriptions for the viruses we know
are really out there.
Occasionally, you may run into a virus which has no
description on our site. In these cases, feel free to e-mail
us, as we might be able to write a description for you
immediately.
