System Requirements To use F-Secure Rescue CD on a computer the computer must: * Be x86 compatible * Have at least 512MB of RAM * Be able to boot from a CD * Be able to connect to the Internet or be able to use a USB drive 3. Product Contents Rescue CD scans the computer and renames all files containing malware to .virus file extension: * Rescue CD will by default scan: * all hard drives in the computer * all USB drives attached to the computer * Windows FAT and NTFS filesystems * Virus definition databases are updated automatically if the computer has an internet connection * Virus definition databases can be updated manually by using a USB drive * The Rescue CD Guide (pdf) has step by step instructions how use the CD Rescue CD is localized to English only. 4. New Features 3.14: * Due to the increase in size of databases, the previous Rescue CD 3.11 release no longer supported 512MB systems but required at least 2GB of memory. The new release again adds supports for 512 MB systems by using compressed Aquarius databases (aqualnx32 channel replaced with aquapacked). * Related to the previous change, fsdbupdate9.run is now replaced with fsdbupdate9-packed.run: http://download.f-secure.com/latest/fsdbupdate9-packed.run 3.11: New F-Secure Security Platform version * New Knoppix * USB stick improvements * Ability to speed up the process by storing malware definitions on a USB stick if scan is done often * Ability to automate scanning or enable malware definition download behind a proxy * Ability to run personalized automated script for the system as part of the process * Ability to convert RescueCD into bootable USB stick * Two new useful utilities have been added: * PhotoRec is a tool that can be used to recover data that has been accidentally deleted or lost due to a corrupted file system on a disk. * TestDisk is another data recovery tool that can, for example, be used to recover a lost partition. * Note that F-Secure does not provide any kind of support on using these tools. Best resource for help on using them can probably be found from their Wiki pages. For more information on these and other features, please see the User Manual. 5. Known Issues * RescueCD cannot scan encrypted drives or files. * If you boot with RescueCD and have other bootable devices inserted, RescueCD might try to boot from a wrong device after 15 seconds has passed. As a solution, boot normally by removing the RescueCD. * RescueCD not detecting USB drive. For RescueCD to detect the USB drive it must be more than 512 MB and less than 16 GB in size. In addition, the USB drive must have at least 256 MB of free space. 6.
