Glossary of Terms:

  • Malware
    Virus, Trojans, Worms, and other malicious applications are termed malware. The term is derived from the words Malicious Software.
  • Spyware/Adware
    Applications that install without consent, monitor and/or track a user's behavior.
  • False positive
    A legitimate application file that is detected as infected. Non-malicious programs can sometimes be detected as malware. Please submit the detected executable as a false postive so that we can correct the detection.
  • Spam
    Unsolicited bulk e-mail. This does not include bulk mail that is no longer desired. This is for unsolicited e-mail messages.
  • Ham
    Legitimate e-mail that was detected as spam. Ham is e-mail that you want to have in your mail client's inbox but has been marked as Spam.
  • Phishing
    Fraudulent e-mail or website claiming to be legitimate seeking indentifiable information. Phishing is an attempt to steal your personal data.
