[15072] Program not able to access the Internet after product installation
Summary
This article provides information about the following issue in F-Secure Internet Security 2010: a program cannot access the Internet after product installation.
Problem description
Once you have completed installing the product, some of the programs on your computer that require access to a network or the Internet may not work.
The most probable reason for this issue is that either Windows Firewall or a third-party firewall is active. Using multiple firewalls on one PC might lead to interoperability and networking issues.
Solution
To solve the issue, disable Windows firewall or a third-party firewall if it is active.
Disabling Windows Firewall
To disable Windows Firewall in Windows XP:
- Click Start and select Control Panel.
- If the "Pick a category" view is displayed, click Switch to Classic View in the left pane to display all Control Panel icons.
- Double-click the Windows Firewall icon to open the Windows Firewall dialog.
- On the General tab, select Off (not recommended) to turn off the Windows Firewall feature:
- Click OK to verify the change.
- We recommend that you restart your computer to ensure that the setting is on.
To disable Windows Firewall in Windows Vista or Windows 7:
- Click Start and select Control Panel.
- Browse to the Security category and double-click Windows Firewall. The Windows Firewall window is displayed.
- Click Turn Windows Firewall on or off. The Windows Firewall Settings dialog is displayed. Note: If you are prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password and/or confirm.
- On the General tab, select Off (not recommended) to turn off the Windows Firewall feature:
- Click OK to verify the change.
- We recommend that you restart your computer to ensure that the setting is on.
Disabling third-party firewall products
The second most common reason for the described issue is that a third-party firewall product is still installed on the computer. Check through Control Panel that there are no other products with firewall installed on the computer.
To disable a third-party firewall in Windows XP:
- Click Start and select Control Panel.
- Double-click the Add or Remove Programs icon.
- Go through the "Currently installed programs" list and uninstall any third-party firewall or third-party product with a built-in firewall by clicking Remove.
- Restart your computer.
To disable a third-party firewall in Windows Vista and Windows 7:
- Click Start and select Control Panel.
- Double-click the Add or Remove Programs icon.
- Open
Programs.
- Open
Programs and features.
- Go through the "Currently installed programs" list and uninstall third-party firewall or third-party product with a built-in firewall by clicking Remove.
- Restart your computer.
More information
It is also possible that Application Control is preventing your program from connecting to the Internet. For instructions on how to allow programs to access the Internet, see article 2262 - Understanding the Application Control dialog box.
