[15071] Final installation phase taking extremely long

Summary

This article provides information about the following issue in F-Secure Internet Security 2010: the final installation phase seems to take exceptionally long.

Problem description

You are installing the product, and the installation goes smoothly until the final phase of the installation where it gets stuck. The product may remain in this completing installation phase for a really long time.

Solution

To solve the problem, complete the following steps:

1. Restart you computer.

The first thing you should do is to try and restart your computer. If restarting the computer does not help, proceed to the following step.

2. Disable Windows Firewall.

Using multiple firewalls on a computer might lead to interoperability issues. Check, therefore, that the Windows Firewall is not enabled.

To disable Windows Firewall in Windows XP:

  1. Click Start and select Control Panel.
  2. If the "Pick a category" view is displayed, click Switch to Classic View in the left pane to display all Control Panel icons.
  3. Double-click the Windows Firewall icon to open the Windows Firewall dialog.
  4. On the General tab, select Off (not recommended) to turn off the Windows Firewall feature:
Windows Firewall settings in Windows XP
  5. Click OK to verify the change.
  6. We recommend that you restart your computer to ensure that the setting is on.

To disable Windows Firewall in Windows Vista or Windows 7:

  1. Click Start and select Control Panel.
  2. Browse to the Security category and double-click Windows Firewall. The Windows Firewall window is displayed.
  3. Click Turn Windows Firewall on or off. The Windows Firewall Settings dialog is displayed. Note: If you are prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password and/or confirm.
  4. On the General tab, select Off (not recommended) to turn off the Windows Firewall feature:
Windows Firewall settings in Windows Vista and 7
  5. Click OK to verify the change.
  6. We recommend that you restart your computer to ensure that the setting is on.

3. Disable third-party firewall products.

The second most common reason for the described issue is that a third-party firewall product is still installed on the computer. Check through Control Panel that there are no other products with firewall installed on the computer.

To disable a third-party firewall in Windows XP:

  1. Click Start and select Control Panel.
  2. Double-click the Add or Remove Programs icon.
  3. Go through the "Currently installed programs" list and uninstall any third-party firewall or third-party product with a built-in firewall by clicking Remove.
  4. Restart your computer.

To disable a third-party firewall in Windows Vista and Windows 7:

  1. Click Start and select Control Panel.
  2. Double-click the Add or Remove Programs icon.
  3. Open Programs.
  4. Open Programs and features.
  5. Go through the "Currently installed programs" list and uninstall third-party firewall or third-party product with a built-in firewall by clicking Remove.
  6. Restart your computer.
