| NAME: | Deutsche Telekom warning hoax |
A fake Deutsche Telekom warning message appeared in Germany in the
enf of May, 2000. Here's the English translation by Hagen Bender:
Dear collueges,
the following Message of the Deutsche Telekom AG shall be
forwarded to as many owners of mobile phones as possible:
If you receive a message on your mobile to call the number
0141/455414, don't reply to it in any case. Otherwise your
invoice could become hight as a montain.
This information was puplished by the "Office Central de
Repression du Banditisme". Some time ago, peculators found a
posibility to use your mobile in a surreptitious way. They call
your mobile and pretend to be your provider. They ask you to
enter a PIN-number (the 09 or 90) with the explanation, that
this is needed to proove the functionallity. Do not enter this
Codenumber and hang up at once! Otherwise the peculators have
the possibility to read the number of your SIM-card, with which
they will produce new cards.
This cheat is going on on a high level. Therefore it is
necessairy to forward this information very fast and to post it
to as many people as possible.
If you receive this warning or something closely resembling it either
in English or German, please ignore it and don't pass it on.
