Here you will find brief and extended definitions of the common terms used within our Security Lab.

Threat Categories includes information on the broader classification of Internet security risks, e.g. malicious software (viruses), spyware, and adware.

Threat Types provides information on the narrower classification of the threats that exist within categories, e.g. backdoor, exploit, trojan, worm, hijacker, and toolbar.

Platforms lists the computer Operating Systems or application frameworks that allow software to run, e.g. Windows, Symbian, Java, and VBS.

Terminology lists and defines some of the technical terms and jargon used within the field of computer science and Internet security, e.g. On-Access Scanner, Distributed Denial-of-Service (DDoS) Attack, and Alternate Data Stream.
