Earlier this year, F-Secure sponsored industry analysts, IDC to write a white paper on endpoint security. Endpoint security software centrally manages, surrounds, protects, and defends desktop and mobile computing environments (clients). By enforcing security at the endpoint, high-speed broadband users and distributed enterprises are better protected against an ever-increasing number of personal, financial, and technical security threats.
F-Secure's solution in the endpoint security software market segment is F-Secure Anti-Virus Client Security 6.0 which it released earlier this year in June. Since that time, our corporate solution has met with widespread critical and business acclaim in its ability to deflect, quarantine and eliminate external assaults.
As a background to the IDC white paper, F-Secure itself recognizes that the malware threat landscape has changed significantly in recent years. Malware coding has become an organized and profitable arena for criminals and the poison harvest which it generates is made up of viruses, spyware, and other malicious code.
For this reason today's threats are more serious and are increasingly too complex to be tackled with a traditional security approach. Clients and desktops are typically the last and often only line of defence against the new threat ecosystem.
In addition to antivirus and firewalls, properly implemented endpoint security also requires additional technologies that need to be centrally manageable (e.g., antispyware and application control) as well as adaptively adjustable to new threats and environments
To make matters more complicated, the IT ecosystem which endpoint solutions serve is changing at a fast pace; increasingly there is a variety of uniquely different mobile devices and a widening variety of networking environments at the tip of the mobility iceberg. Employee productivity, remote access, and centralized access control add to the list of challenges. Managing and ultimately securing the distributed enterprise will be key for organizations of all sizes in the future and endpoint security will be a crucial component in thís future security mix.

The white paper is localized into English, German, Italian and French languages.
