Who can you trust?

Todays software products are bigger and more complex than ever, and it is getting increasingly difficult for IT-experts and laymen to trust the inner workings of the software. During the past year there have been incidents where commercial as well as open source software have been shipped with Trojan horses, keyloggers, tracking and other malicious code to unsuspecting users. Through stringent product development and quality assurance procedures, F-Secure ensures that its products are of a very high quality. The company has over the past few years had a good track record, and has won the praise of both its enterprise and government customers.

But cryptology is a difficult science, and only few of us have the mathematical skills to understand how it all works. How can we then trust that software products, such as F-Secure SSH, actually work properly and securely? And how can we trust that our confidential data aren't being altered or misused? Clearly, F-Secure has earned the trust of many competent, large enterprises and government organizations such as the US Inland Revenue Services, US Dept. of Defense, Shell, Saudi Aramco and MSN over the past years.

This trust can partly be attributed to the diligent people working at F-Secure , but it has been reinforced and strenghtened by certfications undertaken by independent testing laboratories, who have stringently tested our products. Considered the benchmark for security within government departments and agencies, the FIPS 140 certification assures users that F-Secure SSH provides the highest level of protection for their sensitive information. FIPS 140 is awarded by the American and Canadian governments through the National Institute of Standards and Testing (NIST) and the Canadian Communication Security Establishment (CSE). Products must undergo rigorous testing by an accredited independent lab to satisfy the governments’ stringent standards. F-Secure was the first company n the world to obtain FIPS-140-1 certification for its F-Secure SSH product, and today we are currently in the process to obtain the new FIPS-140-2 certification.

“This certification once again positions F-Secure in the forefront in providing security applications to the government and enterprise,” said Ilkka Starck, Executive Vice President of F-Secure. “The FIPS certifications underscore our commitment and success in providing security solutions for the sensitive information of governments as well as enterprises.”
