Virus Protection for Microsoft Exchange Environments

Latest studies have shown that over 90% of computer viruses are spread via e-mail. Within e-mail, viruses are able to spread to all over the world in just a few hours. Virus writers often take advantage of the most commonly used e-mail and groupware systems in order to maximize the speed and effects of viruses. By discovering vulnerabilities in different e-mail systems, they are able to create viruses that are more and more complex and destructive.

A good example of a new breed of the complex viruses is Bugbear, a mass mailing network worm, which appeared in the wild on September 30, 2002. Among other things, Bugbear can pick up e-mail messages from an infected user’s mailbox and send them out along with any attachments. This may cause companies severe financial and legal consequences. Imagine, for instance, how much harm an e-mail containing your company’s business secrets would cause if it fell into wrong hands. In the worst case, it could lead to both extensive productivity and monetary losses, but also to loss of professional reputation.

With F-Secure Anti-Virus, you can reduce commercial and legal risks caused by virus attacks. F-Secure Anti-Virus for Microsoft Exchange is especially designed for Microsoft Exchange environments to not only protect your corporate network, but also to ensure that your company does not send out infected messages to your customers and business partners.

New Enhanced Version Available in January 2003

An enhanced version of F-Secure Anti-Virus for Microsoft Exchange will be available in January 2003. Version 6.10 is even easier to install and use than previous versions. Now installation is so straightforward that even smaller companies with scarce IT resources find the product easy to deploy. In addition to ease-of-use, the new version introduces the following new features:

Support for Scheduled Scanning
Version 6.10 allows the administrator to run scheduled scanning during the night or weekends. This means that maintenance work can be done when the amount of e-mail traffic is minimal.

Outbreak Management
Version 6.10 enables faster responses to virus outbreaks. The product notifies the administrator if the number of infections exceeds a certain level in a given time period. The administrator can also configure the program to run a specified script when outbreaks occur.

Higher Performance
Version 6.10 supports Microsoft's Virus Scanning API 2.0, providing a solid, reliable, high-performance virus scanning implementation with the Microsoft Exchange 2000 Server. Version 6.10 also allows you to share e-mail traffic between several virus scanner servers in order to improve the performance under heavy e-mail loads.
