New horizons for 2006

Welcome to the first edition of Protected for 2006. Of the many positive and ongoing developments with the company, F-Secure is particularly proud of its continued success in the data security market - our last interim report showed that for the tenth consecutive quarter we have been growing faster than any of our stock exchange listed competitors with the majority of the corporation's turnover coming from outside the Nordic countries. This growth is set against a background where in the last quarter the industry itself was marked by a considerable slowdown in growth generally.

Much of this success can be laid at the feet of a determined and energetic workforce and a strategy emphasizing security as a service as the new ethos governing the industry. 2005 was characterized by the drive to develop new business possibilities in the data security ecosystem for different parties such as the corporate business focused Internet or IT service providers, consumer ISP enterprises and mobile phone operators. We are also concentrating on new service platforms to serve the needs of small and medium sized businesses - a sector, which we believe will benefit enormously from this new provision. These developments will continue with measured steps in 2006.

2005 was also a milestone year for F-Secure in its drive to expand its product range with new appliances, namely F-Secure Network Control to prevent network abuse and network-based attacks and the F-Secure Messaging Gateway, which deals an effective and deadly blow to the distributors of spam.

On the mobile front, development continues apace with collaborations with telecommunications giant Nokia to embed our award-winning antivirus software in key smartphone models. At the recent 3GSM fair in Barcelona, F-Secure also announced its support for the new Windows Mobile 5.0 operating system representing a platform extension to the already existing F-Secure Mobile Anti-Virus for Windows Mobile 2003 version. Henceforth, F-Secure can now offer support for all Windows Mobile platforms, both 2003 and 5.0, both Pocket PC and Smartphone. More information about our collaboration with Nokia is presented in an article in this edition of Protected.

Also in this Protected, we will continue the theme of family security looking at the theme of Internet abuse and the telltale signs, which define it. We will also outline the latest development of our F-Secure Messaging Gateway - the new P-Series appliances, F-Secure Network Control and go into more detail about F-Secure's financial performance.

In the technical section we will feature issues relating to the problems of spyware and take a closer look at mobile malware authors through the eyes of Senior Antivirus researcher, Jarno Niemelä. We hope you enjoy this edition of Protected. Allow us to wish you a happy and secure spring.

Mark Woods, Corporate Communicator
