Consequently, the operating capabilities of the port are important to the Finnish wood-processing industry. The information management department of Steveco is responsible for the operation of the IT systems of the port. "Ship schedules, loading, discharging, machine and storage room planning as well as allocation of personnel resources are processed electronically. We also use the Internet to monitor schedules and to print shipping documents. If our system was infected by a virus, some of the port operations would come to a standstill," Ms. Minna Kinnunen of the system support team says. "We have separate systems for the port operations and for financial and payroll applications. As part of the development of the port operation systems, Steveco is currently renewing its information systems. Ms. Minna Kinnunen has enjoyed her work at Steveco and been with the company for 16 years: The port operations have taken huge leaps forward over the years along with information technology.
