I'm happy to present you with the first issue of F-Secure's brand new electronic customer newsletter - Protected.
Each issue of Protected will evolve around different themes. The key topics of this first newsletter are mobility and the next generation of antivirus solutions.
We believe our latest product developments and emerging new security trends are of interest to you. This newsletter will reach you once a quarter. We hope that we can involve you in the subsequent issues by featuring your company so we can together illustrate how security can make current business more effective and how it can enable new ways of working.
Looking forward to serving you with our newsletter and wishing a sunny and relaxing summer!
Risto Siilasmaa President and CEO, F-Secure Corporation
The sea has always played an important role in world history by making mobility possible. Conquests, crusades and journeys of exploration were made by sea. Christopher Columbus found America with his fleet; the Nina, the Pinta and the Santa Maria. The Finnish Adolf Erik Nordenskiöld was the first to sail round Asia through the North-East Passage with his ship the Vega. The Norwegian explorer and archaeologist Thor Heyerdahl built a replica of a raft used by the South American Indians in ancient times, named Kon-Tiki, and sailed 8000 kilometers (4300 miles) from Peru to Polynesia. Spices, seeds, animals and new inventions have been onboard ships throughout world history.
No wonder the buildings at the Helsinki High Tech Center (HTC) are named after these famous explorers - Vega, Nina, Pinta, Santa Maria and Kon-Tiki. Located in this High Tech Center, F-Secure Corporation is an explorer and conqueror in its field, mobile data security. Like seamen who forecast the weather by studying the surface of the water, F-Secure has successfully evaluated the development trends and established its handheld security leadership. Present technology enables information to travel around the globe in a few minutes. Like ships departing from the harbors, people are working remotely and new ways of working are being invented. No matter how people work, the data should be secured against modern storms: viruses, worms, sniffing and hacking.
This first issue of our newsletter focuses on mobility and security solutions for handheld devices.
Wishing you enjoyable moments with our newsletter and nice summer!

Our work environment is becoming increasingly mobile. The global economy has set new standards for communications, productivity and customer expectations in the working life.

Founded in 1988, F-Secure has years of experience with file encryption and antivirus software. Most of the F-Secure technology leadership areas in the traditional IT industry and the Internet environment will be key security challenges also in the next generation mobile environment featuring IP-based networks, mobile internet access and open handset architectures.

F-Secure took determined steps to build handheld security competence in the company long before the mobile security trend emerged. From the start, close cooperation with handheld device manufacturers and operating system vendors has been the basis of the F-Secure leadership in developing security applications that are optimized for handheld devices. The result is a portfolio of handheld security products that meet even the most demanding corporate security requirements in all situations in today's mobile business world.

Internet-borne viruses, such as Nimda and Klez, proved that virus outbreaks are becoming more frequent and more complex with multiple propagation methods. Antivirus vendors now have a serious challenge to get the virus definition updates available for customers and delivered all the way to workstations and servers to stop the virus outbreaks from spreading. In addition to the updated virus definition, the complex virus infections may require extra tools for removing the virus from infected machines. The new release of F-Secure Anti-Virus 5.40 with F-Secure Policy Manager 5.10 takes a huge leap toward answering the new challenges the rapidly-spreading virus outbreaks pose.

Do you react fast enough on virus alerts? Most companies still struggle with the challenges of keeping their antivirus software and virus databases up-to-date and enforcing the virus security policies they have established.

The Helsinki High Tech Center (HTC) is a conglomeration of high-tech companies and has been developed in collaboration with leading Finnish universities, research centers and companies. The business profile is to function as a business center and develop information technology and related fields. Companies and universities gain synergy benefits and additional value by operating under the same roof.
