F-Secure Announces SSH Server 5.3 for Windows

Adds Support for Microsoft Windows Services for UNIX 3.5; FIPS-2 Certification

Helsinki, Finland - January 15, 2004

New York, NY, LinuxWorld, – F-Secure Inc., a leading provider of security solutions for the enterprise, today announced availability of F-Secure SSH Server version 5.3 for Windows, which features support for the latest version of Windows Services for UNIX (SFU) 3.5 from Microsoft as well as pending FIPS 140-2 certification from NIST.

F-Secure SSH is the only solution on the market that provides all standard SSH server functionality, securing all major platforms, including Windows Server 2003, Windows 2000 Server, Windows NT 4.0 Server, Windows XP and UNIX with support for Public Key Infrastructure (PKI), smart cards and AES (Advanced Encryption Standard).

As the leader in secure access and file transfer sessions, F-Secure SSH is the de-facto standard protocol among network administrators at government organizations and large enterprises worldwide. F-Secure SSH meets the highest national security standards, holding the FIPS-140-1 validation. In keeping with their commitment to the most stringent standards of security assurance, F-Secure is currently being processed for another certification level of security called FIPS 140-2 certification with level 2 compliant cryptographic libraries (certified by NIST).

Customer requests led to the development of other features in version 5.3, including sftp folder setup to make file transfers easier; host-key finger-print dialog functionality to enhance security in first-time connection; the inclusion of GSSAPI that integrates SSH with Windows Domain Authentication and relieves users from additional passwords; and Radius® support that allows greater flexibility and integration with existing authentication services. "Securing enterprise networks and data traffic is on the forefront of everyone’s mind these days," said Dennis Oldroyd, director, Windows Server, Microsoft Corp. "The availability of F-Secure’s SSH Server on Microsoft Services for UNIX 3.5 and Windows Server 2003 means that our customers can enjoy some of the industry’s strongest encryption and security technologies."

"Since F-Secure started providing support for SFU, the customer need for cross-platform interoperation has become only more visible," said Travis Witteveen, Vice President at F-Secure Inc. "Our customers can now use familiar and efficient UNIX commands regardless of what type of box the software is actually running on. That, coupled with the many new features and the highest FIPS certification available make F-Secure SSH 5.3 for Windows an excellent choice for today’s demanding security needs in the enterprise."
