F-Secure Donates Data Security Software to the Make-A-Wish Foundation of America®

Helsinki, Finland - February 3, 2003

F-Secure® Inc., maker of award-winning antivirus and encryption software, has donated server licenses and client licenses of its leading security products, F-Secure® Anti-Virus™ and F-Secure® SSH™ to the Make-A-Wish Foundation® of America. The donation is F-Secure’s second to the Foundation.

Make-A-Wish Foundation requested the software from F-Secure in order to provide its headquarters staff and its 78 nationwide chapters with a way to securely access its national Web server when working remotely. F-Secure donated its encryption software, called F-Secure SSH, to close the security holes opened by remote-access connections such as file transfer and remote login. With F-Secure SSH, data is encrypted so that users can safely connect and manage Unix or Windows hosts, keeping passwords and connection information secure from outsiders. F-Secure also donated its award-winning enterprise antivirus software to use at the Make-A-Wish National Office in Phoenix, Arizona.

Three-Year Relationship

F-Secure’s recent donation is part of a three-year-old relationship between F-Secure and the Make-A-Wish Foundation. "Around 1999, we migrated to a new Web server and we needed a network security solution to remotely manage the site," said Gene Brumblay, senior programmer/analyst for the Foundation. "We were familiar with F-Secure by reputation, and we asked if F-Secure would consider a donation of a couple of client licenses. They instantly agreed." F-Secure’s latest software donation upgrades the original Linux server and Unix server licenses donated in 1999 to F-Secure’s newest Anti-Virus and SSH Server software, and also adds 84 client licenses for use at 78 Make-A-Wish chapters located nationwide. "Our new national Web server, which we will be launching in this month, will host the Foundation’s national website as well as 44 of our chapter Web sites," explained Brumblay. "We wanted to secure all access to these important resources, and all of our chapters will be required to use an F-Secure SSH client when connecting to the server." "Many of us are touched, either personally or indirectly, by the charity work that the Make-A-Wish Foundation does," said Ilkka Starck, Executive Vice President of North American operations at F-Secure Inc. "We will to continue to help the Foundation in whatever ways we can." About Make-A-Wish Foundation of America
