F-Secure technology receives FIPS validation

F-Secure announced the first SSH solution based on a FIPS 140-1 validated cryptographic module. F-Secure has the only SSH solution on the market that has passed the most stringent security requirements set by enterprises and government organizations.

Helsinki, Finland - February 20, 2002

U.S. regulations mandate that Government entities purchase cryptographic products that are validated by the National Institute of Standards and Technology for compliance with Federal Information Processing Standards. This FIPS 140-1 validation is therefore expected to open significant markets for the company, both within the government and its supplier community.

FIPS-140-1 validation covers more than the overall quality of software and cryptographic algorithms. FIPS security requirements cover 11 areas related to the design and implementation of a cryptographic module, including Operating System security, software, key management, cryptographic algorithms, and self-testing.

At present, only a few vendors have validated their software modules for FIPS 140 compliance, and F-Secure is one of the first with validated full-fledged cryptographic modules. The F-Secure SSH product, which will be available in the first quarter of 2002, will be the first SSH implementation based on a FIPS 140-1 validated cryptographic module.
