Finjan's SurfinShield for F-Secure Policy Manager Protects Content Against New or Unknown Active Attacks

Finjan Software, Inc., a leader in proactive behavior-monitoring Internet security software, and F-Secure, (HEX: FSC), a leading provider of security for distributed enterprises, today announced a version of Finjan's SurfinShield Corporate product designed to integrate with F-Secure's security management console. The new product, called SurfinShield for F-Secure Policy Manager, brings Finjan's proactive, behavior-monitoring security for active content to customers who want to manage multiple security products from a single console. This is the first time that a behavior-monitoring security product has been integrated with an anti-virus product suite, and points to a positive future for security against malicious code. With today's worms such as ILOVEYOU that travel the world in minutes, proactive inspection of code behavior is viewed as a complementary technology that leverages anti-virus software security.

SurfinShield for F-Secure Policy Manager

SurfinShield for F-Secure uses proactive behavior-monitoring techniques to "sandbox" active Web content and monitor its behavior without using signature database updates. Active content programs include ActiveX, Java, scripts, executables (.exe) and scrap files (.shs). SurfinShield for F-Secure Policy Manager can block new Trojan horses and worms that breach security policies, even if the program has never been seen "in the wild" before. For example, if an incoming program from the Web or e-mail attempts to delete a file or open a network connection that action (or "behavior") will be blocked. For companies that currently block active content from the Web such as ActiveX, SurfinShield allows them to "open their doors" to e-business safely.

Integrated with the F-Secure Policy Manager, security administrators can deploy SurfinShield to their corporate network of PCs and manage multiple security products from a single console. This makes the administration of multiple security products and numerous security policies much easier. Other F-Secure products that plug into the F-Secure Policy Manager console include award-winning anti-virus, distributed firewall, VPN, and file encryption software. Each best-of-breed application module can be controlled and deployed centrally and security policies for each module can be set for an entire company, a department or specific individuals.

The product is expected to be available in early December 2000 on Windows 95 and Windows 98, ME, NT and 2000 operating systems.
