A secure and cost-efficient network solution from Novo and F-Secure

On 17 August, 2000, Novo and F-Secure will present a data security product that will make the construction of secure network connections much easier and less expensive. The TrustVPN solution has been designed for organisations whose employees have a remote network connection to their workplaces. TrustVPN also enables easy construction of temporary inter-company extranet solutions that are independent of any teleoperator.

"Until now, users have had to obtain their Internet connection from a teleoperator and a user ID and certification from a certification company. TrustVPN encompasses certification and the features required to identify the certification, therefore a separate operator is not needed to establish a network connection. This makes networking considerably cheaper while guaranteeing uncompromised security," explains Heikki Sundquist, Managing Director of Novotrust Ltd, Novo Group's certification service company.

TrustVPN consists of F-Secure's VPN+ and Policy Manager software and Novo's certification services. By fully protecting the company's data security, this combination ensures that only people authorised by the company can access the internal network. The solution enables a reliable identification of the user who can safely access the network from any location where an Internet connection is available. The user's 1024-bit ID is based on the X.509 standard, in other words the Public Key Infrastructure (PKI) system.

"In the future, VPN will become more and more important. An increasingly large number of companies must be able to provide their employees with access to the company's internal network from outside the company premises without compromising data security," underlines Risto Siilasmaa, Managing Director of F-Secure, and continues: "The features included in TrustVPN, namely F-Secure VPN+ and F-Secure Policy Manager, enable centrally managed, secure connections from the internal network and from outside the network, regardless of location."

The developers of this product believe that TrustVPN has excellent potential in the international market, too. Demand for secure and easy-to-use network connections will grow as companies become more networked and work becomes increasingly mobile.
