Data Fellows Launches Security as a Service for ISPs

Leading Security Solutions Vendor Lets Internet Service Providers Offer Value Added Security Services

Espoo, Finland, October 26, 1999 - Data Fellows Corporation, a leading provider of centrally managed widely distributed data security solutions, today announced Security as a Service for ISPs. Security as a Service arms Internet service providers (ISPs) with the necessary applications to open new lines of business and provide security services to their distributed, mobile customers as part of their service offerings.

Security as a Service for ISPs enables service providers to offer a set of security applications, including the award-winning F-Secure Anti-Virus for protection against malicious code. Recent major virus outbreaks have raised concerns among ISP customers. With Security as a Service, ISPs can provide up-to-date virus protection, as well as network and file encryption and traffic filtering, to their customers for a monthly fee. Security as a Service for ISPs enables security applications to be "rented," necessary updates and upgrades to be made automatically without operator or user intervention, and multiple applications to be run under a single, centralized management console.

"Offered as added value for our consumer Internet service, anti-virus became an overnight success," says Ville Mujunen, product manager at Sonera Ltd. "It gave us a method to further strengthen our position in the crowded Finnish marketplace and augment revenues, as well. We are currently looking into creating other security services with Security as a Service."

"The key goal with our approach is simplicity," says Jukka Kotovirta, director of the Service Provider Business Unit at Data Fellows. "To be effective, security must be straightforward and easy to implement and manage. Security as a Service for ISPs achieves this with very sophisticated remote installation and update features."

Security as a Service is targeted at ISPs selling to mass markets, such as residential customers and small and medium-sized businesses. As part of Data Fellows¹ Security as a Service™ concept, it is paving the way for service providers to become true security service providers. The technology is based on the revolutionary F-Secure Framework distributed security management architecture and Data Fellows¹ award-winning security applications.

The ISP¹s help desk personnel are trained to deal with the most common security issues and have a hotline to Data Fellows¹ global help desk for critical issues.
