Carrier-class Anti-Virus Server Protects Service Provider Production Environments

Espoo, Finland, October 26, 1999 - Data Fellows Corporation, the leading provider of centrally managed widely distributed data security solutions, today announced that its award-winning F-Secure Anti-Virus product now supports the Solaris™ x86 and Linux™ platforms. F-Secure Anti-Virus has now entered carrier class in performance and manageability.

Rated as the world¹s best anti-virus product, F-Secure Anti-Virus now enables service providers to break away from the restrictions imposed by older technology, such as gateway traffic scanning, and provide world-class anti-virus protection all the way to the end-user workstation. While the firewall or gateway approach does stop some malicious code, F-Secure Anti-Virus protects against a multitude of other sources that the gateway cannot control. For example, it enables service providers to offer protection against viruses introduced inside the firewall, from diskettes and CD-ROMs. In addition, it protects against viruses introduced through encrypted email attachments and Internet or other network connections that bypass the ISP.

"F-Secure Anti-Virus enables service providers to open up new lines of business, offering much needed transparent policy-based security to their customer base," says Mr. Jukka Kotovirta, director of service provider business at Data Fellows. "Service providers can now offer virus-free services to their customers as added value to e-mail service. Moreover, customers can execute virus protection on all the standard production platforms. Such value added services allow service providers a competitive advantage, increasing profits and expanding their customer base."

F-Secure Anti-Virus for Solaris™ x86 and Linux™ are part of Data Fellows¹ Security as a Service™ concept that is paving the way for service providers to become true security service providers. The technology is based on the revolutionary F-Secure Framework security management architecture and Data Fellows¹ award-winning security applications.
