Data Fellows Launches Security as a Service™ for Outsourcing

Solution Provides Policy-Managed Security Services For Encryption, Anti-Virus, Monitoring

Espoo, Finland, October 26, 1999 - Data Fellows Corporation, the leading provider of centrally managed widely distributed data security solutions, today announced Security as a Service for Outsourcing. The new solution offers service providers the opportunity to build a wide array of security services based on Data Fellows¹ powerful F-Secure Framework management architecture.

Security as a Service for Outsourcing enables facilities management companies and other outsourcing specialists to "rent," security applications, ensures that necessary updates and upgrades are made automatically without operator or user intervention, and allows multiple applications to be run under a single, centralized management console.

The management architecture provided by F-Secure Framework allows efficient remote installation, management and updating of security for these customer segments. The security services are provided by the F-Secure anti-virus, file encryption, network encryption and other Data Fellows security applications. Service providers can offer any combination of these services to customers for a monthly fee.

All management information follows standard simple network management protocol (SNMP) format. Administration can be standalone or integrated under Tivoli™ and other high-end management systems. This enables service providers to smoothly distribute services to the widest range of end users while easily managing policies and security events from a central site.

Sonera Ltd. was one of the early adopters of the solution, and company officials report that the results are impressive. "In choosing technology for our newly released PartnerGate secure extranet service, standards compliance was high on our list," says Timo Korpela, director of product development at Sonera Ltd. "Data Fellows was able to deliver a solution that follows the key standards while delivering the rich functionality we need."

"Currently most security services focus on managing the perimeter firewall," says Ilkka Ranta, product manager at Data Fellows. "However, studies show that more than 60 percent of real security threats and challenges come from inside the organization. Security as a Service for Outsourcing gives service providers the tools to provide comprehensive security solutions to their customers."

Security as a Service for Outsourcing contains powerful technology to enable smooth and unobtrusive software installation and updates, as well as versatile alert and statistics functions. With Security as a Service, service providers can offer up-to-date security to their customers for a monthly fee. The service provider¹s help desk personnel will be trained to tackle the most common security issues and will have a hotline to Data Fellows¹ global help desk for critical issues.

Security as a Service for Outsourcing is targeted at large-scale service providers and facilities management houses selling to the high- and medium-end corporate market. The solution is part of Data Fellows¹ Security as a Service™ concept that is paving the way for service providers to become true security service providers. The technology is based on the revolutionary F-Secure Framework distributed security management architecture and Data Fellows¹ award-winning security applications.
