F-Secure BackWeb 4.0 Shipping Now

Painless delivery of F-Secure Anti-Virus signature database updates and product upgrades

Espoo, Finland, August 17, 1999 -- Data Fellows, a leading developer of data security solutions, is shipping its F-Secure BackWeb 4.0, the reliable and easy-to-use solution for updating F-Secure Anti-Virus signature databases and delivering upgrades for F-Secure products.

F-Secure BackWeb, which utilizes BackWeb Technologies' Polite transfer technology, makes it possible for users to receive information and software updates without the pain of waiting to download items from the Web. Updates are sent directly to the user's computer and the delivery is done in the background. The user of F-Secure Administrator is alerted immediately when there is new information and/or data available. F-Secure BackWeb makes use of unused bandwidth in the Internet connection to download files automatically.

"F-Secure BackWeb takes away the trouble of remembering to update anti-virus signatures and upgrade other programs," says Tomi Tuominen, Development Manager at Data Fellows. "The system administrator or the user can always be sure that he or she has the latest updates, without having to search the Web. Today, with the proliferation of viruses, it is more important than ever that anti-virus programs are up-to-date. We are in the business of giving our customers peace of mind, and F-Secure BackWeb is part of it," he continues.

For example, F-Secure BackWeb can be configured to fetch F-Secure Anti-Virus signature database updates into the F-Secure Management Server, from where they are delivered to the end-user workstations using the underlying F-Secure Framework, Data Fellows' new three-tier data security management architecture. Through the Framework, the network manager is able to define and manage the security policies and to control all the security applications of an entire distributed organization from one centralized management console called F-Secure Administrator. F-Secure BackWeb also works without the Management Server.

F-Secure BackWeb 4.0 operates in the Microsoft Windows NT environment. At present, it is only available to corporate customers utilizing F-Secure Framework. To download F-Secure BackWeb client, see
