F-Secure recognizes an impairment loss of €4.8m, impact on result €3.9m negative

Dec 21, 2006

F-Secure acquired Rommon Oy in November 2005 to strengthen its network competence and offering to the ISP customer segment. The Rommon technology is targeted for network security and anomaly detection for the operators’ networks sold as F-Secure Network Control.

Changes in the product strategy related to the Network Control product cause a significant change in the earnings model used in the impairment test. This results in a non-recurring impairment loss of EUR 4.8m for the year 2006, impact on result is EUR 3.9m negative. The difference is due to deferred tax liabilities. However, F-Secure will aim to utilize the acquired technology and competencies in its future products.

The impairment loss will be recognized on goodwill and intangible assets. Original guidance given for Q4 revenues is between €21-24m and costs below €17m. This non-recurring impairment loss does not impact the company’s future growth nor profitability outlook.
