Report ID: MS201202004
Date Published: 15 February 2012
Criticality: Important
Compromise Type: cross-site-scripting information-disclosure privilege-escalation
Compromise From: remote
Affected Product/Component:
Microsoft SharePoint Server 2010
Microsoft SharePoint Foundation 2010
Summary
Three cross-site scripting vulnerabilities in Microsoft SharePoint could lead to information disclosure or escalation of privilege.
Detailed Description
Microsoft has issued a security update for Microsoft SharePoint 2010 to address three vulnerabilities, each of which could lead to information disclosure or escalation of privilege.
The vulnerabilities were caused by improper handling of malicious JavaScript elements that are contained in a URL, allowing the script to be echoed to the user's browser. Upon successful exploit, an attacker could access restricted content, and assume the victim's identity and perform actions on the victim's behalf.
These issues have been resolved in the latest update by making correction on the way that Microsoft SharePoint validates and sanitizes user input. As a protection against potential exploit, users are recommended to install this latest update.
